GetPaidToShop.com: Mystery Shopper Comments
GetPaidToShop.com: Mystery Shopper Review / Comment 5:15PM 9/12/2007 (PST)
A Springfield resident said today she was within seconds of losing nearly $5,000 to an online mystery shopper scam.Wendy Mytar said a company identified as getpaidtoshop.com deposited a check for $4,997 in her local account on Monday with instructions to withdraw $500 as a training fee to the company, and the remainder for purchases from local retailers and wire transfers. It sounded so legitimate, said Mytar, who works as clerical and secretarial temporary.Mytar said she had wired $2,176 to the company through Western Union earlier today and was about to wire another $1,746 through MoneyGrant to a company in Canada when Heartland Credit Union of Springfield called her cell phone to alert her payment had been stopped on the original check deposited in her account.I was within seconds of sending it (the second transfer), she said. Western Union suspended the first transfer.Susan Gleason, director of marketing and sales for Heartland Credit Union, said a teller alerted a supervisor this morning after becoming suspicious of the check and large withdrawal. It just sent up a red flag, said Gleason.Mytar, who also planned to alert law enforcement, said she was out the $500 training fee paid to the online company and another $90 spent at local retailers but that the losses could have been much worse. The company lists a P.O. box in Virginia as its contact information. -From Scam?????????????? (Non-Customer)
